How do I learn the law and local procedure? How do I get clients? These are the two biggest questions faced by any new attorney contemplating entering the practice of law as a solo-practitioner. The Lawyer Entrepreneur Assistance Program (LEAP) program is designed to provide the training and assistance needed to answer those questions. As a participant in LEAP you will be able to build your legal and procedural skills by attending in depth practical training sessions run by practicing and retired attorneys and judges. You will also be able to gain real world experience by assisting LASOC clients who won’t be concerned over how many hours you bill on their pro-bono cases. For practical advice on your practice you will be able to turn to LASOC’s two retired judges who volunteer daily to help the LEAP participants. You can also bring your questions to our weekly case review sessions where practicing attorneys help the group work out solutions to difficult legal questions.
As for how to get clients, LEAP has you covered there too. First, as you gain skills through training in practice you will be listed for free on LASOC’s lawyer referral service. However, you will want even more clients, and so we will be providing training and mentorship on how to build and keep a steady stream of clients through marketing, referrals, and word of mouth. In addition you will be provided with resources and materials to help you build you firm as a thriving business. In addition LEAP also offers fully outfitted discount office space for participants who want to use the LASOC offices.
